BANNERS .......... WAVING Flags .......... HANGING Flags ........... 2-STICKS

During the 2006-07 season there were discussions on the TiU (This is United) forum regarding the lack of atmosphere usually generated (mainly at home games) and the absence of yellow and blue in the stadium - most flags being 'flown' were of the St. George's cross type (red and white at an Oxford match!)

Apart from the obvious way to generate more atmosphere - by actually singing louder and making more noise - one suggestion was to actually get more yellow, or yellow and blue, flags on show at home (and away) matches, both the hanging type and those to be waved.

There is now an option to get your own unique flag made, with whatever wording or image you choose (within limits), and at any size you wish (so far sizes up to 8ft x 12ft and 4ft x 20ft have been made), at a much more reasonable price than those being offered by professional flag making companies.  (see here, further down this page for some of the flags already made)  Price examples (3ft x 5ft): design 3 below is approx. £20, and design 1 is approx. £25.

Take a look at some of the suggested design options at the bottom of the page below (these are not the only options, any design and/or wording and colour combinations may be possible and is entirely up to you) .  Then just send an email via the 'flag enquiries' button at the bottom of the page, listing the main details of your flag, as below: size, background option, wording etc, and a mock-up image will be made and sent back to you.

Obviously, there is no cost involved for any of this, until a design and the price are agreed upon and an actual order is placed.  Flags can be paid for at time of handover (usually at a match), or by cheque or Paypal if the flag is to be posted.

Options:-

1.  Size
From 2ft x 3ft up to 4ft x 8ft (although larger sizes may be possible depending on design.  For a waving style flag a size of 3ftx5ft may be the largest to use easily - but you can have bigger!).
2. Usage
  - 'Hanging' - tape loops are stitched into each corner.
- 'Waving' - a 'pocket' is stitched into the flag during manufacture, to allow a handle to be inserted.  Waving flags larger than 7ft are best made from a lighter, but less durable fabric.
- Both hanging & waving - has both of the above features.
- "Two sticks" - a pocket for a handle in each end.  The flag can then be held by both ends, by one or two people
3.  Background style (plain backgrounds are cheaper, and easier to make!).
  - Plain.
- Horizontal stripes
.
- Vertical stripes.
- Others, to request.

4.  Lettering and/or Logo
Lettering - basic letter sizes are 4", 6", 8", 12" (although larger can be made) and will initially be chosen depending on the flag style and size.  Any colour.
Logo - such as the ox head, but any basic image can be used, as long as it is a simple shape and an image can be  provided.
5.  Handle (if required)  (the club allow these plastic handles to be taken into the stadium, as long as they are not mis-used in any way)
For smaller flags plastic tubing and wooden rod is used.  For most length handles, they are made of 3 parts (see photos), allowing them to be quickly put together and taken apart, and also for unobtrusive carrying.

For larger waving flags (6ft plus), telescopic fibreglass handles are a better option (£4-£5).

Flag enquiries Please try to give details of as many of the above options as possible in any enquiries.
